Julia Nadler, Necklace

For my wire project I decided to enlarge my pearl necklace. I got this necklace from my favorite jewelry store in Wisconsin, and I wear it everyday. I thought it would be fun and challenging to create a sphere out of wire and it was not as difficult as I thought it would be.

I started out by making 4 circles of wire and then I connected them to make a sphere. Making clean and neat connections was key to having a successful sculpture. After making the sphere, I made the connecting pieces, which was more difficult because it was hard to get them to scale. Then I decided to cover the pearl in white tissue paper so it would resemble a pearl more than just a geometric sphere. The tissue paper was delicate and hard to work with, but I think it adds a lot to the final piece. The final step was connecting the chain to the pearl and for that I just took a long piece of wire and threaded it through the connecter.

I am very happy with the outcome of my sculpture. Working with wire was hard but fun and I learned a lot of cool new techniques for creating good connections.
