Needle and Thread Sculpture

\When I received the freedom on deciding what I wanted to make my soap bar into, I was overwhelmed. With lots of help I finally decided on the needle and thread to represent child labor in the clothing we all wear. When sculpting the needle and thread, it took me over four times. I had a actual needle and thread as a reference and I couldn’t quite figure out the dimensions. The ultimate goal of the sculpture was to represent child labor and to give students a chance to think critically of all the items they use on a daily basis. When casting my hand I realized my own hands would be holding the thread and that I wear and use items everyday that were made by children that are being forced to do so. I am just as guilty as everyone else and that is what I am trying to convey. It is important to think critically about injustices even if you realize you’re part of the problem, so you can try to stop yourself before continuing the issue.
